Tyler Yocco: From Recovery to the Grinder

Born in 1993, I’ve spent most of my life feeling like the odd one out. My path wasn't a straight line; it was a winding road through addiction that eventually led to a pivot toward alcohol in 2015, and finally, full sobriety in April 2024. In my early recovery, I decided to treat myself to a new pocket knife. What started as a reward turned into a rabbit hole of curiosity and necessity. I moved from reviewing knives to wanting to understand their soul, which naturally led to making them.

The Evolution of the Craft

My journey into gear started small:

  • Textiles: Handkerchiefs were my first foray into creating.

  • Steel: Once I mastered the fabric, the knives followed.

In May 2025, Terry and I launched this site to provide a dedicated home for my work outside of Etsy. Though Terry moved on in March 2026, I remain at the helm, currently focusing my energy on fixed blade projects and Redeemer folder modifications.

A Note on the Future

Life has a way of throwing curveballs. Following a recent struggle with paranoia and a stay in a psychiatric ward, I experienced a disappointing shift in how I was perceived by the community I helped build.

Because of this, I have decided to fully retire from making knives for the public after 2026.

Until then, I am pouring my focus into these final projects. This site is the culmination of my recovery, my craft, and my resilience. Thank you for being part of the final chapter of this journey.

Handkerchiefs (Hanks)
People already use cloth to care, clean, carry, and steady themselves.

A reset button you can hold.
Something tactile that brings you back to your body.

Pocket infrastructure.
Like good boots or a solid belt. You don’t notice it until it’s missing.

A personal flag.
Not a statement to others. A reminder of who you are when things get messy.

Blade wax

Tools decay quietly when neglected. Care extends usefulness.

Rust is just time winning.
Wax isn’t magic. It’s resistance.

A pause between use and loss.
Maintenance as respect, not obsession.

You don’t oil a blade because it’s special.
You oil it so it stays useful.

Mystery / loot boxes

People like being surprised when the risk is bounded.

A sealed envelope, not a gamble.
You’re not buying hope. You’re opening a letter.

Letting someone else pack your pockets for once.
Relief from decision fatigue, not chance.

A care package from the signal.
Not everything needs to be chosen. Some things are received.

These aren’t upgrades. They’re friction reducers

  • The hank reduces friction between you and the day.

  • The wax reduces friction between steel and time.

  • The box reduces friction between choice and curiosity.

  • The knife reduces friction between time and effort.

North Mountain Blade

I sold a 600 unit License to make the Redeemer to North Mountain Blade in q1 of 2025, and it is set for release in q1 of 2026.
